Farewell letter from a Marine

The following email was sent by Lt. Lipka on July 9, 2007 and is reprinted with his permission.

Dear Family & Friends,

The time has come for me step off and lead my Marines into combat. As you can imagine, this is a bittersweet event, as any who have ever known the dueling duties of family and country can attest. I am excited about the opportunity, and have a great group of Marines. We are fortunate to be making Marine Corps history by taking the first rocket artillery into a combat environment. No one likes to leave family behind, but in defense of freedom, sacrifice is often necessary, and I do still believe that this is about freedom. People of weak stomach and timid soul would say that our efforts are misguided or in vain, but I have only to think of 3,000 fellow Americans who were guilty of nothing more than going about their daily lives to remind me why we must stand in defiance of those who wish us to simply go quiet into the night. I believe in America; an America that is willing to stand alone if necessary to further the human desire to choose ones own destiny and courageous enough to recognize the siren’s song of pacifism for what it is. Einstein once opined that the world is a dangerous place, not because of evil, but because of good people who do nothing about it. For all of our advances, we have blinded ourselves to the harsh realities to which all great societies have eventually succumbed. We are therefore obliged to be resolute in our intentions.

Once again, I will covet the prayers of those of you who are people of faith. For those of you who wish to contact me while I’m in Iraq, I have included my contact information below. Thank you in advance for your support.

Until then,

Tedd

Biography of Tedd Lipka

Tedd LipkaI am a Marine Reservist with Q Battery, 5th Batallion, 14th Marines based out of Buckley AFB who is temporarily assigned to Fox Battery, 2/14 out of Oklahoma City. We are the Marine Corps' first High Mobility Rocket Artillery unit, which employs a similar weapons system to the Army's MLRS units. I had only recently completed Officer training after six years in the Reserves and was working as a restaurant manager while preparing to return to school for an advanced business degree. Due to the shortage of junior officers within the Marine Reserves, I was called back to Active Duty, since it had been more than two years since my previous deployment. My wife and two children remain there in Elizabeth. I will arrive in Iraq on July 15th and will be operating in the Al Anbar province in support of the Second Marine Expeditionary Force for about seven months.

It was my privilege to get acquainted with Ted while still in Denver. Since coming to Ft. Collins, I have had the privilege of getting to know Major Diggs Brown, U.S. Army Special Forces and Ft. Collins City Councilman and Sgt. Brian Ivers, USMC and a Ft. Collins Police Officer.

How about establishing a Colorado Hall of Heroes for the likes of these fine men and those we know from the past like Frank Bales and Gen. Felix Sparks.

Know that my prayers and those of many others are with Ted and these other courageous Americans who truly make the U.S.A. the land of the free and the home of the brave(s)! [Whoops! My favorite baseball team before the Rockies came into existence and I added my affinity for the Ft. Collins Foxes!]

Wow!
What a wonderful letter from Tedd Lipka!
Truly an American at Heart!
Today, I Adpoted a Troop through the Presidential Prayer Team.
I have no picture of him, or a Bio on him. All I know is that he is Cpl Christopher, a Marine.
Today I pledged and I committed to pray daily for this individual U.S. military person and his family, thereby supporting the President and our Great Nation, The United States Of America!
I wrote to Cpl Christopher and told him, that where ever in the world he was, what ever he was doing, I was with him always!
Also that in his service to our country, he was doing God's Work!
God's work is Freedom & Liberty & America!
Where ever & when ever, Old Glory Fly's, she is a symbol of FREEDOM to the World and all that look upon that great Flag!
The same is true for every man and woman in the American Uniform, for what ever branch of our Military he serves in.
May God Bless them ALL!
I for one SHALL NEVER FORGET 9/11 & the Treasure we have lost already in our fight on the war on terrorism!
We will never stop, until we achive Victory!
I would encourage all to Adopt a Troop! or Troops!
Thank You Tedd for your telling it like it is!
Also today when wrote to Cpl Christopher, & now include Tedd Lipka & all that serve, these words from a Chinese proverb:

If there is BEAUTY in character,
there will be HARMONY in the home.
If there is HARMONY in the home,
there will be ORDER in the nation.
If there is ORDER in the nation,
there will be PEACE in the world.

Yours, in Freedom & Liberty

I am certainly greatful for the views and stand, training and leadership of Lt. Tedd Lipka, a Marine who serves the USA and leads my son at this time in Iraq. This marine mom couldn't be prouder of her son, his unit, and indeed, all of our men and women who do what it takes to stand and fight on the forefront of freedom. We kneel behind you in prayer to Almighty God for your duty and job, protection and provision and victory for freedom from tyrany. Heartfelt thanks to the many men and women, wives and husbands, children, parents. grandparents, families and friends who serve "on this side" and "stay by the stuff of everyday life" while our service men and women forge ahead. Let's remember every day...who could forget...and do our part here at home. Again, thank you, Lt. Lika. DDS, OKC
